Best Food Trucks in Toronto

September 11, 2017

I like to live by a rule, food is always better when it’s from a food truck! I don’t know why, but it’s always so tasty. Toronto loves it’s food trucks and the awesome thing is there is so much variety when it comes to them, from Sushi Burritos to burgers and of course some delicious tacos! I decided to follow all the best food trucks in Toronto and go on the hunt to find the best!

ME.N.U. Food Truck

M.E.N.U seems to be everywhere, on my food truck journey I came across this truck about 4-5 times,  the meals are a fusion of different Asian cuisines and foods around the world with options such as Rice Balls, Peking Duck Putine, Taiwanese Pop Corn Chicken and Kim Chi Fries. My favourite has to be the Roti Taco, there are a few options and each one is jam-packed with flavour!

SUSHITTO On the Road

If you’re a sushi lover, this is the place for you! I thought originally a sushi burrito would be a fusion of Japanese and Mexican but it’s basically a giant burrito sized sushi roll, which I think is awesome especially if you’re on the move, trying to eat tiny pieces of sushi is a nightmare and messy because you always get soy sauce and wasabi on your fingers.

Not only do Sushitto On the Road sell sushi burrito’s they also have Pho Burrito’s, Sashimi Nachos & Kimchi poutine, so if you’re after a Japanese/Viet fusion definitely put this truck on your list.

Fully Loaded

Chockablocked full of goodness, this fried chicken sandwich is a winner in my book. I stupidly had this giant meal before playing a game of Aussie rules footy (watch this if you don’t know what it is) but no regrets because I very much enjoyed it. Fully Loaded have several different types of flavours including Sweet Thai Chilli, Buffalo and Bahn Mi, all of which include a big piece of juicy, delicious fried chicken!

Mr Pierogi

What turned out to be the greatest part of my food truck journey was the fact that I got to try so many different food varieties that you don’t generally find at a restaurant. Mr Pierogi offer some jazzed up pierogi’s with tons of variations including German sausage, Cheeseburger, Greek, Taco & even poutine (for the true Canadians!)

The photo above is a classic pierogi, which consists of bacon, sautéed onions and sour cream. If none of the available menu options float you boat, don’t worry! They also have an option to create your own, so it’s a great opportunity to go nuts a design your own pierogi masterpiece.

Busters Sea Cove

If you’re a seafood nut like me you’ll love Buster’s Sea Cove, I kept trying to go to this food truck but would always be in the wrong place at the wrong time until finally I stumbled across the truck by chance! But unfortunately for I’d just had a big, disgusting burger whiched filled me up and I was absolutely gutted I couldn’t fit in any of Buster’s!

I decided to wait it out, I came back a few hours later, ordered some tacos and was not disappointed! Their speciality has to be taco’s, they use fresh seafood which makes them amazing! I highly recommend the shrimp taco!

Alijandros Kitchen

This was definitely the surprise package on my food truck journey, looks like an icecream or some kind of desert but taste like a falafel flavoured taco, it sounds weird but trust me on this it is bloody amazing! I had 3 people on the street when I was walking away asking me what it was, it’s a FAWAFFEL I would reply to them to which they would look at me strange.

The Fawaffel is a falafel flavoured waffle with mixture of generally marinated salad and chicken inside, I got the Chicken Avo which had lettuce, tomato, avo, chicken, onion and garlic sauce. If you are just sitting around today, get off your ass and go find this truck even if it’s on the other side of the city, trust me on this one!

Jacked Up Coffee

Being a coffee nut, I couldn’t do a post about food trucks without mentioning my favourite coffee truck! Although I find most food trucks are generally a twist on a certain food type, Jacked up coffee provide regular espresso based drinks but what makes them stand out from most coffee trucks or cafe’s is the quality of the coffee, it’s simply first class!

Make sure you keep an eye out for them, although lately they are generally based at the Yorkville Village, which is a shopping mall in Yorkville.

El Trompo

What would a food truck journey be without discovering some taco food trucks! I stumbled across a few taco food trucks and maybe my expectations were too high after trying some of the best taco’s around Toronto (see link below) but I was a little disappointed just about all of them except for El Trompo, which stands out by far!

8 Places to grab a cheap & delicious taco in Toronto

Much like the restaurant of the same name, El Trompo make some amazing and delicious taco’s! When ordering the tacos you get an option of 2 tacos, 1 of them should be their speciality Al Pastor (marinated pork and pineapple) and you also have options such as chorizo, pulled pork, shredded chicken & pulled beef.

The Arepa Republic

The beauty of going on this food truck journey is being able to try food from all over the world that I’d either never heard of or never tried before. I’d never tried Venezuelan food and didn’t really know what to expect but I was definitely happy I did! An Arepa is basically corn flatbread sandwich stuffed full of goodies with options such as black beans, avo, cheese and meats such as pulled pork, steak, chicken and fish.

The arepa tasted like a taco with a twist, all in all I thoroughly enjoyed my first Venezuelan food experience and if you get a chance you should definitely give the Arepa Republic a crack!

Eva’s Original Chimneys

What better way to finish than with a dessert and it’s pretty much a whole meal in itself. Eva’s Original chimney’s are a soft, delicious waffle cone filled with soft serve ice cream and all sorts of different sweats and sauces depending on what flavour you choose.

There are a few locations where you can find Eva’s delicious dessert but they have a unique menu for the food truck including the original, apple crumble, berrylicious & chocolate & caramel s’more. This huge treat is as good as it looks and  will certainly keep you full for a few hours!
